Cologne -- Dune: Part Two, the highly acclaimed sequel to director Denis Villeneuve's adaptation of the legendary sci-fi story about the planet of Arrakis, the Fremen and the Spice, which keeps pretty much everything up and running in the universe imagined by Frank Herbert, celebrated an epic premiere at ODEON Leicester Square in London's West End on 15 February. Pictures of the red carpet event at the movie premiere, which in this case had been enhanced by a large desert-like setting, went viral.
IPS from Milton Keynes, north of London, supplied the lighting technology for the event. The company previously equipped itself with 100 of the powerful, weatherproof ROXX® E.SHOW TW+ LED PAR fixtures and supplied them straight to the highly anticipated premiere of Dune: Part Two.
All 100 devices were deployed for the premiere, which fortunately saw no rain. However, things looked very different during the build, as Tom Warden, Marketing and Health & Safety Manager at IPS, recalls: "In fact, in typical London fashion, the weather was pretty nasty during the build days, so it's fair to say that the IP rating of the ROXX devices was put to intensive testing.“
ROXX E.SHOW TW+ is a powerful, weatherproof (IP65) LED PAR fixture with a single 200 Watt RGBLAC LED engine. The advanced optical system offers an enormous output combined with outstanding light qualities (CRI/Ra 97, TLCI 98). The compact solution boasts excellent white light as well as a significantly extended colour spectrum thanks to additional amber, lime and cyan LEDs. The colour temperature is flexibly adjustable in the range from 2,000K to 10,000K. Like all ROXX products, the E.SHOW TW+ features intuitive, user-friendly control and a wealth of useful accessories (e.g. a 360-degree rotating, eight-blade barndoor and magnetic interchangeable lenses with different beam characteristics), which can be used to expand the fixture’s range of applications in a variety of ways.
At the Dune premiere, the devices primarily served as a high-quality white light source for the huge red carpet, with their Tunable White (TW) function playing a crucial role. It enabled the lighting designer to adjust the colour temperature to the changing light conditions to ensure a perfect white balance at any time for the all-important press shots.
IPS owner and key account manager James Mason opted for ROXX E.SHOW TW+ following a long search for an IP-rated PAR light with Tunable White for his rental business.
He says: "After extensive benchmark testing, we finally chose ROXX E.SHOW TW+ because the combination of size and weight, brightness and light quality perfectly met all our requirements. The simple controls and available app options are ideal for standalone applications, and the quick-change magnetic lens also saves a lot of time compared to other systems."
The fixtures were also very well received by the client, as Tom adds: "Limited Edition Event Design, who were in charge of the technical production of the premiere event, were particularly impressed with the design, output and lighting quality of the E.SHOW TW+. At an earlier presentation we were able to impress their Technical Projects Manager and Lighting Designer Richard Goden so much that he specified the product for this high-profile film premiere right away.“
